The View from The Shard | London Bridge

February 28, 2013  •  Leave a Comment

Last Sunday, 24 February 2013, I visited The Shard with the London Camera Club.  It only opened to the public on 1 February and stands at 310m, making it the tallest building in Westen Europe. It was designed by Renzo Piano (never heard of him prior to the Shard), and I watched it grow and evolve during the three years it took to complete.

Last weekend was absolutely freezing so I stayed in the relative warmth of floor 69. I wasn't brave enough to venture up to the open-air observation deck on floor 72 and expose myself to sub-zero temperatures and howling winds. It was also quite misty so although the views were impressive, they were somewhat limited.

An adult ticket costs £24.95 which is pretty steep (no pun intended), but the building is open from 09:00 to 22:00 so I'll probably return for some night-time shots and tackle floor 72 in the summer.
